No wonder you are reading an article about Philip Treacy. Not only because he is so famous for his hats, who are all over, but also because everybody talks about the Isabella Blow exhibition. And, of course, if you speak about one, you must mention the other.
Born in Ireland, he studied fashion in London. And as soon as 1989 he met Blow, who was an editor at Tatler. A year later he was working in her basement since she really believed in his talent. And it’s not difficult to see why.
He changed something that seemed so boring to high-class art with a determination that is so appreciated today. And, indeed, there was a lot to work on. He experienced with colors, feathers, materials, shapes. Today he is already part of the tradition, but it took 20 years to make this happen. It’s the course of history: what used to be part of innovation becomes somehow tradition.
