Noëlle Mulder’s body of work ranges from furniture to landscape architecture, from interior design to works of art. Much of her work originates from explorations of the tension between structure and chaos, between the naturally spontaneous and the artificial. In her designs Noëlle connects to the vulnerability of nature with the man-made and our unconscious behaviors. Themes she has explored over time include repetitive structures, spontaneous movements of people and vegetation, and the interaction between human behavior and public space.
TREASURE ISLAND
Abstract landscapes changing over time by objects that come and go. Experience the delicate sensation of shaping and capturing traces in time. Everyday compositions emerge, until a reset handle wipes the slate clean and allows a fresh start.
Every day as we come home, we bring objects from our journey. Practical items we want to keep track of, or others we like to cherish. Equally, when leaving we take with us what we need, and the center of these everyday items is a common image we all recognize. Noëlle Reijnhart Mulder has taken the gathering of these everyday, simple, small, treasured objects of any kind, as the starting inspiration for the design of a surface that adopts the shape of the objects it holds. These objects move around the house, get lost and found again, and give the home a sense of connectedness to what goes on in the world outside.
Typically placed at an entrance or exit, what comes from your pockets gets placed on the cabinet surface, and a unique landscape is created. Travelling objects can find their peace, and everyday compositions emerge. The landscape keeps developing and changing over time as objects appear and move on, leaving their trace until a ‘reset’ wipes the slate clean, and allows for a fresh start.
