For the second year running SHOWstudio teams up with The Royal College of Art to celebrate their MA graduate fashion show, which features work by menswear, womenswear, knitwear and millinery graduates. Founded by former Vogue editor Madge Garland in 1948 and led by Professor Wendy Dagworthy OBE since 1998, the highly acclaimed MA programme has helped train many successful designers working at the top of the fashion industry – Christopher Bailey at Burberry, Clare Waight Keller at Chloé, Peter Copping at Nina Ricci and Heikki Salonen at Diesel. Watch this year’s MA show live on 29 May to see which rising stars catch your eye.
Additionally, you can tune in on 12 May at 13:30 BST on showstudio.com to catch a panel discussion on the future of fashion education featuring the RCA’s Wendy Dagworthy, fashion journalist Iain R. Webb, and designers and RCA alumni Matthew Miller and Holly Fulton. This is a very special talk as it times with Professor Dagworthy’s retirement from her position as head of fashion at the RCA. During her time at the RCA, and before that Central Saint Martins, Dagworthy has taught some of the fashion industry’s most acclaimed names, from Stella McCartney and Hussein Chalayan to Giles Deacon and Erdem. She was also instrumental in the establishment the first incarnation of London Fashion Week. SHOWstudio editor Lou Stoppard will grill her and the rest of the panel on London’s position as a centre for fashion education, the ways our colleges have developed and changed over time, and what it takes to make it after graduation.
