There are some artists that are interested in the specificity of an area, or in the biomorphic quality of objects. Tara Donovan is one of those artists who looks at the world and then tries to recreate it with different materials. The result is magnetic and the audience as well as the critics have troubles putting her in a specific box. Most of the materials she uses are translucent and are usually not very powerful when alone. But once she puts toothpicks together or straws they make a beautiful sculpture:

Now, her works are on view at the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, Remagen, Germany and its her first exhibition in Europe. The artist, who says she works more like an architect or like a scientist, is famous for her low profile materials, and this exhibition clearly underlines that. Also, what is interesting and gives the audience a view on her work is the fact that she does not make drawings, and, therefore, the sculptures are more organic in this sense.

The material she uses, due to the fact that they are translucent, are very much influenced by the exhibition space or by the audience that moves and gets closer to the objects. Also, light is very important. Although she uses materials that are mass produced, Donovan does not want to criticize consumerism. She is one of the artists that understand sculpture to a higher level.
