During Berlin Design Week (June 6-9) numerous galleries, museums, studios and design institutions will host exhibitions and events throughout Berlin.

As part of Berlin Design Week, Create Berlin will also present » nightshift«, a night of open design studios, in cooperation with DMY. Numerous Berlin-based studios and workspaces will open their doors on the evening of June 6 from 7–11 pm and invite visitors to openings, concerts, studio tours and lectures.

Here are some of the studios that will be on display at Berlin Design Week.

ALFONSO RUANO CANALES:

Berlin

The energy saver series lamps derive from the challenge of highlighting the positive qualities of the infamous energy saver light bulb. Using the double spiral structure as a base, a very simple lamp can be created attaching some elements. The system allows a vast array of iterations. The lamps present fully articulated parts in different materials from wood veneer to mirrored plastic/wood sandwich material developed in the studio.
The concept was selected to represent Spain at the Ibero-American Biennial of Design.

POOREX

Poland

The Poor Toys (peg, sink, and brush cars) is a set of little cars made of beech wood. Common household items were used in their construction, clashing dramatically with the wooden toys, with the aim of entertaining and inspiring children to play. The Peg Car is a combination of a digger and a clothes peg. Sink Car is a version of a crane for bathroom fitting enthusiasts. Brush Car is a limousine that reminds you to do your household chores.

URBANATURE

Leipzig

The label urbanature is a selection of product designer Jörg Brachmann’s ideas. It was founded in early 2013. His designs are inspired by a strong affinity with nature and a passion for cooking, and he has a real eye for the extraordinary.

He turns his ideas into prototypes in his own studio on the outskirts of Leipzig, where he then perfects them before creating product series in his own workshops.

11%

Athens

11% design is all about simplicity, interaction and surprise. Four good examples are Zoo, Hydra, DimmerLamp and Boxx. Zoo is a rocking stool for kids, with interchangeable animal heads. So kids can ride a different animal every time! When not in use, it turns into a small bookshelf. Hydra is inspired by the mythical monster. It is a two-headed lamp with numerous possibilities of placement. The DimmerLamp does exactly what it says. It adjusts the amount of light that comes from the light source by turning the object in different directions. Boxx is a portable exhibition stand. No screws are needed, just put the sides together and Boxx is ready in a blink of an eye.
