The application period for Spring 2015 Artist in Residence program is now open. 33OC seeks proposals from international professional artists interested in working within the Toffia environment for a one month period.

33OC Artist Residency program was developed to become a space & community where international artists can share places, experiences and sensibilities. The aim of the residency is to challenge perceptions about how art is made and integrated in everyday life, by devising unconventional scenarios for introducing ideas into the public realm.

The program offers artists the opportunity to confront new ideas or experiment with their work and the particular territory of Sabina region. We wish to give artists the opportunity to find new ways of interaction between art, society and the territory.

The residency is hosted within a renovated 13th Century church/theatre building, which also hosts various cultural activities for the community (theater, concerts and various classes.) Located in Toffia – a small and quiet medieval hilltop village in the middle of Sabina, an olive oil producing area about 60km NE of Rome, Italy.

Eligibility: The residency is open to individual professional artists at any stage of their career, working in visual arts, photography, film & video, media arts, performing arts, music and literature. We particularly encourage applications from artists interested in working with the particular cultural and geographic characteristics of Toffia or Sabina region.

Costs & Support: 33OC is a nonprofit organization currently functioning without any external financing. At the moment we can continue to host artists only on a fee basis. The cost per artist/month is: 250 Euros

Private studio retreats in a collaborative atmosphere for Spring 2015.

Grin City Collective welcomes applications from artists of all disciplines at all stages of their career for residencies in rural Iowa, USA. Residents receive individual housing and studio space and may elect to participare in one of the following outreach programs:

Social Practice Project: 1st Block (Apr 27 – May 16) PUBLIC WRITING AT IOWA LIBRARIES

There are many opportunities for public art in our country, but fewer opportunities for passersby to stumble on the written word. In this block we will compose, cut, and install in vinyl short stories and nonfiction in the windows of ten Iowa public libraries. This public writing will be visible from both within the library and the exterior sidewalk. Residents will have the opportunity to install and see 2-3 of their own pieces displayed publically.
SKILLS: Writers and other artists with strong writing will be selected. Please include at least one piece of writing among your application’s work sample. Residency fees $100/week

Social Practice Project: 2nd Block (May 18 – June 6) POP-UP GALLERY/READING/PERFORMANCE @ GRIN CITY

Show your work in a short gallery exhibit during Grin City’s open house event. Participating artists will work both independently and collaboratively to produce artwork for a one-night event, which will include a gallery show opening, performance and reading by residents and staff. Residency fees: $100/week
SKILLS: OPEN TO ALL ARTISTS, WRITERS & PERFORMERS

Garden Outreach: (Available both blocks)

Love fresh, seasonal food? Learn the ins and outs of small-scale, commercial vegetable growing on our on-site organic farm, Middle Way Farm, a 2-acre operation that serves the greater Grinnell area. Farmer Jordan Scheibel is looking for residents with a desire to learn more about agriculture who don’t mind strenuous outdoor work in all conditions. Residents work 12-15 hours per week on the farm and participate in all aspects of the operation, including greenhouse transplant production, planting, field work, harvest, and post harvest handling, depending on the season and needs of the farm. There will be numerous opportunities for education and discovery both in and out of the field. Early morning starts (7-8 am) are required. Residents will be paid a wage of $8 per hour plus will have access to abundant unmarketable produce. More hours may be available at particular points during the season if desired. Residency Fees: $200/week ($96 weekly wage is paid during your stay)

No Outreach (Available both blocks)

Your time and space are entirely your own. Spend the whole residency in your studio or wandering the property, whatever you choose. Residency fees: $200/week

Deadline: December 1, 2014

The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center’s mission is to promote innovation, creativity, and impact-oriented solutions to critical global problems. Residencies and conferences at the Center, located in northern Italy, support work in the Foundation’s key issue areas: Advance Health, Revalue Ecosystems, Secure Livelihoods, and Transform Cities. In addition, the Center welcomes proposals from all fields that advance the Foundations’ long-standing mission to promote the well-being of humanity.

The Resident Fellows Program allows for focused work, uninterrupted by the professional and personal demands of daily life. In addition to time for dedicated work on individual projects and for reflection during the day, building new connections and collegial interaction with other residents is a defining characteristic of the Bellagio experience. Residents include an international group of academics, writers, artists, scientists, journalists, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers. Meals and informal presentations of residents’ work afford an opportunity for dynamic discussion and engagement with each other. The combination of quiet time for individual, focused work and connections with such a diverse community is unparalleled.

Academic Writing, Arts & Literary Arts, and Practitioner residencies typically last up to four weeks with spouses/life partners permitted to accompany residents. Joint and team applications are also welcomed. The Foundation provides meals and accommodation to all resident fellows.

Public Recordings: 8 DAYS IV – A Gathering of Choreographers
An intensive encounter open to Canadian contemporary choreographers.

8 DAYS is an intensive encounter open to Canadian contemporary choreographers. The gathering values curiosity, questioning and reflection on how we work in order to deepen choreographic practices.
The ongoing 8 DAYS project addresses a need for peer-to-peer choreographic development in Canada, insisting that this mode is crucial to the continued relevance of the art form. Originally instigated in 2012 by Ame Henderson and Tedd Robinson, 8 DAYS IV stems from the desire to continue this artistic exchange. How dance artists work is intimately related to what they create. Theory and practice, talking and making, doing and reflecting, and the systems we do and don’t rely on are understood as interwoven threads of creative development. 8 DAYS is an opportunity to share artistic practices and concerns and to challenge, invigorate and inspire each other. This is an occasion to contextualize oneself within a larger frame. 8 DAYS escapes the pressures of production-driven work. It creates space to reflect on one’s current practice and through rigorous dialogue and experimentation encourages new artistic possibilities.
Six Canadian choreographers working in Canada or abroad will be invited to join 20 past participants of the three previous 8 DAYS encounters. A cohort of 26 artists will embark on a co-authored adventure influenced by its surroundings, created by those present, and guided by their overlapping and divergent experience. For more information, please view the Call for Participants: http://www.dwyc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/8-DAYS-IV-Call_EN.pdf

ANIMA CASA RURAL ARTIST RESIDENCY Thematic Residency “Body Becoming.”

BODY BECOMING :
The body figures as the most important place upon which many of our stories play out. From the Greeks who admired and celebrated the nude, to the Confucian Koreans who covered it eroticizing only small amounts of visible skin, the body is where ancient myths take place.

The body continues to be a place of ideological battles; women are inscribed with ideas of nation and power, and the continual debate over the woman’s right to choose turns the physical body into a concept.

The chemical physiology of the body has helped us achieve states of transcendence – spiritual mystics have forced their bodies into particular states through drug ingestion.
Technological advances have allowed us to see our bodies in different ways. In his seminal “Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man” Marshall McLuhan suggests technology is an extension of the human body, extending or amputating our senses and bodies. We have begun to physically absorb technology through GMO foods, pharmaceuticals, pacemakers, hearing aids, implants and instruments which help to fix and augment the body, blurring the line between human and cyborg.

ANIMA Casa Rural Thematic Residency BODY BECOMING, invites artists to ponder the body and all that concerns it through various mediums in this themed residency. During the residency we will look at the different ways the body has been present in art and culture. We will screen Peter Greenaway’s “Pillow Book”, and Roland Emmerich’s “Universal Soldier”. We will also visit Hospicio Cabanas which house the murals of Jose Orozco. There will be a presentation addressing the body and its cultural significance inviting a series of discussions about the artists’ work and the body.

Application Process.
Please visit our website and fill out the application http://animacasarural.com/applications/

ANIMA’S SELF DIRECTED ART RESIDENCY aims to offer a time and space for reflection, research and production, with ample time to focus on your practice. ANIMA selects candidates at all stages of their careers (emerging and established) and is primarily directed towards practices and projects involving writing, photography, video, performance, drawing and painting. Our pool of applicants and residents is diverse in all aspects, and our programs are opportunities for artists to pursue their own work, free of pressure. Artists are encouraged to create site-specific work and respond and work with the rural landscape of ANIMA. Artists must finance their own stay at Anima Casa Rural, and source funding for their stay during the residency. All fees must be paid prior to arrival. We are more than happy to assist you in securing funding, so please let us know if we can help.

Countryside Residency for International Artists in Rome, Italy
Best of both worlds in this residency in the countryside just 40-minutes by train from vibrant Rome!

Get inspired by this artist residency in the countryside of Rome!

The non-profit organization ‘c.r.e.t.a. rome’ offers an international self-funded residency program in the countryside of Rome, Italy. The Italian word for clay seemed perfect to express the co-founders’ commitment to creating an international reference point for ceramics and the arts in the eternal city of Rome. Moreover, taken as an acronym, it spells out c.r.e.t.a. rome’s main activities: ceramics, residencies, exhibitions, teaching and the arts.

The residency in the countryside is still in Rome, but lies on the border with the nearest town, Anguillara Sabazia, one of three Medieval towns on the lake of Bracciano. The nearest train station is 2,5km. away. We have two bikes available for resident’s use. From the train station there are regular trains that run to Rome in about 40 mins. There is also a shuttle bus from the train station to the town of Anguillara on the lake, stopping along the way at supermarkets, etc.

The residency includes accommodation in a one-bedroom house with a garden complete with fruit trees. This is a particularly good option for artists working on collaborative projects or who seek tranquility for writing. Resident artists can bring their spouses/companions and/or families (supplemental fee).

Residents have a well-equipped private studio. For ceramic artists, there is access to both electric and gas kilns, with options for reduction firing. We provide a weekly shopping run, technical assistance in procuring materials, firings, etc., advice on museums, galleries and sites in Rome and beyond.
