Imme van der Haak is born and raised in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Imme went on to graduate in 2010 from Artez, the academy of arts in the same city. Following this, she moved to London to begin studying a master in Product Design at London’s reputable Royal College of Art where she graduated in 2012.

Imme’s work is playfull, yet subtle in its approach. She constantly strives to question and challenge our perception of what is ‘normal’, focusing on the everyday, which we might take for granted.

She currently exhibits in Gewerbemuseum in Winterthur (Switzerland), in the exhibition SKIN TO SKIN  (1 December 2013 – 9 June 2014).

Beyond the Body
Photos of the human body are printed onto translucent silk which will create the possibility of physically layering different body’s, ages, generations and identities.
In a dance performance, the moving body manipulates the fabric so the body and the silk become one, distorting our perception or revealing a completely new physical form. The movement then brings this to life.

Invisible Visible

Half of the Icelandic population lives on another frequency, these creatures appear outside our field of vision. Invisible visible is a series of two masks that will give the wearer the opportunity to act like a creature of this other world, elfs, hidden people or other mythical creatures. By distorting our physical and mental perception, the masks reconfigure a common belief. When worn the masks challenge our perception of appearance and identity and give an opportunity to integrate in the mythical world of the unknown.

The Anatomy of Fendi

The Anatomy of Fendi began with a dissection of the iconic Fendi Selleria bag. The bags components were harvested and re-worked in a small one-off series of organic sculptural forms that focus on the individual design features of a bag, such as the handles, bag lining and branding. The final outcome adopts an antiquarian museum aesthetic that aims to play upon Fendi’s brand heritage.

Jewellery

“In my photographs and films I transform the human body by using materials which lace up parts of the body, change the silhouette or influence in a different way the form of the body.”
