World’s most celebrated media and publishing company Condé Nast opens its archives for a new exhibition; Coming Into Fashion: A Century Of Photography at Conde Nast. This special exhibition shows why this publishing house is the best talent scout of the biggest names in fashion.
So many photographer’s careers were launched in one of Condé Nast’s magazines. The past 100 years are now visible in this fashion photography exhibition where early work by the biggest photographers such as Edwin Blumenfeld, Corinne Day, Guy Bourdin, Helmut Newton and many others is shown. The display features 160 photo’s, taking you trough the 20th Century and showing the power of a good photo.
Initiated by The Modern Edinburgh Film School for presentation at Stills, FILME is a special programme of poetic and enigmatic moving-image works by experimental filmmaker Ute Aurand. The films, dating from 1980 to the present, address themes of intimacy, the ephemeral, the diary film, and the portrait. Aurand studied at The Film and Television Academy, Berlin, co-founded the group FilmSamstag and teaches and curates film festivals throughout Europe and the United States.
From Death to Death and Other Small Tales brings together works from the D.Daskalopoulos Collection, one of the most important private collections of modern and contemporary art, with major works from the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. Many of the most significant names in post-war and contemporary art are represented – figures whose output and ideas have shaped the way in which subsequent generations of artists have developed and others continue to emerge. Artists represented within the exhibition include Marina Abramović, Matthew Barney, Hans Bellmer, Joseph Beuys, Louise Bourgeois, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Robert Gober, David Hammons, Mike Kelley, Sarah Lucas, Ana Mendieta, René Magritte, Ernesto Neto, Pablo Picasso and Kiki Smith.
Michael Nyman: Man With a Movie Camera
Michael Nyman’s first ever exhibition in Scotland will consist of a major installation showing simultaneously the video film-maker, photographer and composer’s ten (10!) remakes of the famous vintage film “Man with a Movie Camera” by the Russian film-maker Dziga Vertov and his wife Yelizaveta Svilova (who edited the film).
Nyman’s ten films share identical frames which are synched exactly to the original film and additionally all of the films share a common soundtrack written by the artist and composer. All ten films and the original work will be able to be viewed from a single view point in the gallery space or the visitor may walk amongst the screens and monitors.
