Can Pekdemir is a professional artist and sculptor born in 1982 in Istanbul, Turkey. Different body forms, he sculpts, are often deformed, spooky and bizarre. He works on deformation and abstraction of forms and shapes using several methodologies. Can deforms anatomy which acts like a cloth or as a soft body without bones. Basically Can is focused on isolated urban spaces, city and nature relationship using photography as a tool of documentation.

Currently Can Pekdemir is a full time instructor in Department of Visual Communication Design at İstanbul Bilgi University.

The Turkish artist creates bizarre abstract art that is representative of the human body. These interesting art works are vaguely reminiscent of the monsters in silent hill. These twisted forms appear in remote urban areas, making them stand out all the more.

Within Can Pekdemir’s world, bones disappear from faces while whales are dropped from great heights, deforming beautifully at the shock of landing. On first discovering his work, you can’t help but take notice of the oddly incredible works that Pekdemir presents, while on further investigation you’ll be glad that you wanted to know more. Though Pekdemir’s images are seamless and bizarrely natural, his execution is calculated. Nothing is done without reason, so should you spy melting bovine hind legs among his breathtaking portfolio of artwork, you can rest assured that there’s a very good explanation.

These eerie creations include one sweater-wearing ball of twisted tentacles standing in front of a car. This intriguing deformed portrait places this sea of tangled tentacles where the head should be, which gives it a strange look. Another of Pekdemir’s creations looks almost like a mummy. The form is very similar to a human body, but wrapped up in white. The face of this creation is also distorted, adding to the creepy nature of this collection.

Talented artist Can Pekdemir focuses in on the human body and distorts it until it looks like something you might see in Beetlejuice. This chilling collection certainly leaves a lasting impression on its observers.
