Charles Ray
Sculpture 1997-2014
The Kunstmuseum Basel, in collaboration with the Art Institute of Chicago, will hold a major exhibition with the works of Charles Ray (b. Chicago, 1953, lives in Los Angeles).
The retrospective deals with the works he created between 1997 and 2014.
Charles Ray is known for his work in Venice, Boy with Frog, which draw the attention of a larger audience. It’s an oversized naked boy who has a frog in his hand, expressing both a sort of power as well as innocence.
What is impressive in Charles Ray’s work is the way in which he works with sculpture: although his works might be very large, they are, at the same time, somehow very pure and there are elements that make the audience reconsider their first impression.
Charles Ray is regarded as one of the preeminent sculptors working today. The exhibition hosts many of his works, and it is a must-see.
