This past weekend, Dallas Contemporary opened “Alta Moda,” a photo exhibition by Mario Testino. The show consists of portraits of Peruvians from Cusco, in southeastern Peru, in traditional garb. The show, supported by the Joule Hotel, Nancy C. & Richard R. Rogers as well as Burberry, consisting of ethnographically stylized portraits with Testino’s flashiness in tonality, is also an examination of the photographer’s return to examining his own culture. “I am Peruvian and it is one of my missions to celebrate my country’s rich culture on a world stage. I hope that through this exhibition I am able to do that. Dallas Contemporary is such a dynamic institution and I am delighted to bring this body of work there,” said Testino.
