Louis Vuitton‘s influence has long reached beyond just its quintessential role as a luggage purveyor as it has become a firm pillar of lifestyle in fashion. Taking its Traveling Curiosities exhibition to China, Shenzhen has been the house’s latest stop where several different critters constructed out of LV product were put on display. The intricacy and detail of each piece is highly respectable as it offers a much different and arguably more artistic way of viewing the traditional LV range. The exhibition is by no means new, with previous stops having taken place in Paris, Tokyo and Australia.
Most people will be happy to own one of Louis Vuitton‘s luxury bags, but British artist Billie Achilleos seems happier chopping them up and reassembling them into… animals. This is because the French luxury house has commissioned the artist to create an animal kingdom — including a beaver, squirrel and kangaroo — made out of its handbags and accessories.
Titled “Traveling Curiosities,” the touring exhibition reached Dalian, China, last month and is now shown for the first time in Shenzhen.
The highlight of the tour is a giant panda created exclusively for China, made out of Louis Vuitton’s Damier Collection in monochromes.
With the exhibition, Achilleos says she is also matching the characteristics of the creatures with materials. A chameleon, for example, is covered in “scales” made from colorful leather and key rings, while a grasshopper is constructed from accessories with zippers and poppers that make noises like that of the insect.
Louis Vuitton “Traveling Curiosities” exhibition is shown from May 1 to 19 at the Atrium of The MixC Shopping Mall, 1881 Baoan Nan Road Luohu, Shenzhen.
