This year was a great year for Sou Fujimoto, which on top of everything came the fact that he was selected to design the the temporary Serpentine Gallery pavilion in London. What is interesting about the Japanese architect is the fact that he works with materials and he makes them look so organic, and people are an element he always thinks about.
“Nature and architecture are fundamental themes [of my work],” says Fujimoto after giving his keynote speech at this year’s World Architecture Festival.
“I like to find something in between. Not only nature and architecture but also inside and outside. Every kind of definition has an in-between space. Especially if the definitions are two opposites, then the in-between space is more rich.”
Among his projects we mention the Children’s Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, a space where children that have mental problems are rehabilitated. He brought to this work his own personal touch. His works are very open and very bright, and light is always a vital element of his projects.
