Jayson Musson
at Salon 94 Bowery

In his second Salon 94 show, Jayson Musson speaks through 8-year-old Nancy, the title character of Ernie Bushmiller’s popular American comic strip that ran from the 1930s through the ‘80s. Musson’s candy-colored paintings of 1980s-style graphics seem to occupy as much space as feasibly possible; his cartoonlike molded sculptural forms—a fiberglass ice cream cone, a squiggle, a teddy bear on wheels—are re-creations of set pieces from the comic strip. Musson’s childlike exploration and gentle mocking of Modernism creates a surreal experience.
